Physical inactivity is a rising issue among children. Sedentary lifestyles as well as the fact less than half of primary school children do the recommended 60 minutes of exercise daily is linked to the decline in basic fundamental movement skills. A child’s ability to perform fundamental movement skills is their foundation for life long physical activity. It is shown that without basic movement skills children are less likely to participate in sports or play with their friends, have lower fitness levels and are more prone to being overweight or obese.

E3Sports has implemented a new addition to our Recess Enrichment Programs called a Movement Puzzle. Reestablishing children’s fundamental movement skills such as hopping, balancing and throwing are an essential part of E3Sports movement puzzles. Each week E3Sports introduces a new movement puzzle to the students. The movement is specifically chosen to develop necessary movement skills. The Movement Puzzle is reviewed and performed everyday to ensure the students’ master the skill. By creating an opportunity for the students’ to learn and master the skills we are helping to decrease the negative effects that come with declining movement skills, and promote positive physical activity.
